Service Description

PTSD and Complex PTSD: What’s the Difference? PTSD and Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) are often talked about interchangeably, but they’re actually quite different. One reason for the confusion is that C-PTSD isn’t yet recognized as a formal diagnosis in the DSM-5, so PTSD often becomes the default term. Below is a brief overview of each, and how I support clients through both. ⸻ PTSD Therapy PTSD typically results from a single traumatic event—such as an accident, assault, natural disaster (like the fires we just experienced), or combat. Trauma therapy offers a safe space to process what happened and reduce symptoms like flashbacks, anxiety, and hypervigilance. I use body-based, evidence-supported methods including: • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) • Somatic Experiencing • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy These approaches support deep healing by working with both your nervous system and your story—helping you feel more grounded, present, and in control. ⸻ Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) Therapy C-PTSD often stems from ongoing or repeated trauma, especially in childhood—like abuse, neglect, or relational trauma. These can be “big T” traumas, or smaller, repeated wounds that accumulate over time. Therapy for Complex PTSD may involve deeper emotional and somatic processing. I tailor our work to your history and needs, with a focus on: • Healing long-standing trauma patterns • Rebuilding a sense of self • Creating safety in your body and relationships ⸻ Trauma Therapy in California and Montana I offer therapy for PTSD and Complex PTSD to clients in California and Montana, with in-person availability on the westside of Los Angeles. Whether you’re new to therapy or returning, I aim to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported. Reach out today to schedule a free 15-minute consultation.
